Discord Bio Templates You Can Copy, Paste and Make Your Own

Your About Me is the only part of your Discord profile you write yourself. Everything else is a name, a picture and a colour. People open it for about two seconds before they decide to add you, message you or scroll on.

This page gives you ready-made Discord bio templates for that box. Pick a layout, swap the blanks for your own name and details, and watch it build on a live profile card as you type. Every template fits Discord’s 190-character limit, so nothing gets cut off when you paste it. Copy and paste is free, and you never need an account.

What a Discord bio template is

A Discord bio template is a pre-built layout for the About Me section of your profile. Instead of staring at an empty box, you start with a structure: a name line, a details line, a personality line, and symbols or dividers holding it together.

Some are three plain words. Some are framed boxes with borders, tree-branch layouts, stat blocks or a fake music player. What they share is a shape. The shape is what makes a profile look deliberate instead of thrown together, and it is the part that is genuinely hard to get right in such a small box.

The blanks are the point. {name}, {pronouns} and {age} are there for you to replace. Two people can use the same layout and end up with profiles that read completely differently.

How to copy and paste a Discord bio in three steps

1. Pick a layout. Use the category wheel to browse, or start on the All tab for a mix from every style. Every card shows the bio exactly as it will look on a dark profile card.

2. Make it yours. Press Edit in Studio to load it into the editor. The first blank is selected for you, so you can type straight over it. Add symbols, kaomoji or emojis from the tabs, or restyle the whole thing in a different letter style with one tap. The counter tells you how much of your 190 characters is left.

3. Paste it into Discord. Copy the bio, then open User Settings → Profiles → About Me, paste, and save. On phones it’s the same field inside your profile settings. Changes show up right away, so refresh your own profile to check the line breaks landed where you expected.

190 characters: the rule that decides everything

Discord’s About Me holds 190 characters. That cap is the same for everyone, and Nitro does not raise it. This one number explains why most bio layouts you find elsewhere don’t work.

Everything counts toward it:

  • Letters, numbers and punctuation count as one each.
  • Spaces count.
  • Every line break counts as one character, so a six-line layout spends six characters on structure alone.
  • Decorative symbols like ✦ ┊ ╰ ୨୧ count as at least one each.
  • Emoji usually cost two, and flag or compound emoji can cost more.

A layout copied from a long list of “bio templates” is often 300 or 400 characters once you count the borders. You paste it, Discord refuses it or truncates it, and the frame you liked is suddenly missing its bottom edge. Every template on this page was written to fit inside the limit with room left over for your own words, and the counter in the studio updates as you type so you always know where you stand.

A practical habit: leave yourself ten or fifteen characters of headroom. Decorative characters are wider than letters in the profile card, so a bio that technically fits can still wrap onto an extra line and break a border.

The anatomy of a Discord bio layout

Nearly every layout that works follows the same logic, no matter what style it wears.

Line one is identity. Name, pronouns, age or all three. This is the line people actually read, so it goes first.

Line two is context. What you do, what you play, what you listen to. Two or three items separated by dots or arrows beats a sentence, because separators cost one character and full sentences cost many.

Line three is personality. The joke, the lyric, the quiet line about being online at 3am. This is what makes someone remember the profile.

An optional last line is the rule. “dms open”, “ask before adding”, “no drama”. It saves you conversations you don’t want to have.

Dividers and borders sit around those lines. They are decoration, and they are also the first thing to cut when you run out of characters. A bio with three sharp lines and no border always beats a beautiful frame around nothing.

Choosing a bio layout that matches you

The fastest way to pick is by mood rather than by design. Pick a category on the wheel and browse what’s there. There are 35 of them, covering everything from gaming and music to anime, goth, y2k, developer, study, couples and matching pairs for two friends.

Use the search box if you already know what you want, because it looks inside every template at once. Search “wanted” for poster layouts, “stats” for RPG-style blocks, “now playing” for music bios. Tap the heart on anything you might use, and the Favorites filter keeps it for later.

If you’re deciding between a few, the best test is the preview card. A layout that looks great as text can feel cramped on a real profile, and you can see that here before you paste.

Formatting: markdown, letter styles and symbols

Three different things are often lumped together as “formatting”, and knowing which is which saves a lot of frustration.

Discord markdown is Discord’s own syntax. On current clients the About Me renders bold **text**, italics *text*, underline __text__, strikethrough ~~text~~, spoilers ||text||, quotes > text and small subtext -# text. The syntax characters count toward your 190, so bold costs four extra characters every time you use it. Check the live preview: if your client shows the raw asterisks instead of bold text, fall back to the next option.

Styled letters are not fonts at all. They are real Unicode characters that happen to look like script, bold serif, small caps or bubble letters. That is why they survive copy and paste into Discord, which has no font picker. In the studio, tap a style to restyle your whole bio, or select part of it first to style just that part. Tap another style to swap, or Normal text to strip it back. One warning worth knowing: screen readers announce these characters awkwardly, so keep at least your name readable if accessibility matters to you.

Symbols, kaomoji and emojis are the decoration: ✦ ⊹ ୨୧ for dividers, ( ˶ˆᗜˆ˵ ) for a face, and standard emoji. They insert at your cursor from the tabs above the editor. Mixing all three in one bio is usually too much. Two decorative elements and some breathing room reads better than a wall of sparkles.

Writing tips that make a bio worth keeping

Say one specific thing. “I like music” is filler. “Sends unsolicited playlist links” is a person. Specific beats broad in every profile format, and it costs the same characters.

Write for the people you want. A bio is a filter. If you want co-op partners, name the games. If you want quiet friends, say so. The right line puts off the wrong people, which is the whole point.

Front-load it. The profile card shows your first line most clearly. If someone reads nothing else, it should still work.

Don’t repeat what Discord already shows. Your username, avatar and status are already on the card. Spending characters restating them is wasted space.

Keep it current. Bios go stale. If yours still mentions a game you stopped playing a year ago, swap in something you actually did this month.

Discord bio ideas when you don’t want a layout

If you’d rather write from scratch, use one of these as a prompt and keep it under 190 characters:

  • Three nouns that describe you, separated by dots.
  • A line about what you’re doing right now, not what you are in general.
  • Your favourite lyric, then one line explaining nothing about it.
  • A rule for your DMs.
  • A joke at your own expense.
  • What someone would find in your camera roll.
  • A “currently / next / never” list in three short lines.

Any of these becomes a bio in about a minute. Paste your draft into the studio if you want a border or a letter style around it.

What not to put in your bio

Your About Me is public to anyone who can click your profile, including people in servers you don’t know well. Leave out your full name, school, workplace, town, phone number and anything that would help a stranger find you offline. If you’re under 18, treat your age and location as things to skip rather than share. Templates with an {age} blank are equally fine left empty or filled with something vague.

Links count toward your 190 characters in full, so a long URL can eat a third of your bio.

Troubleshooting

The bio won’t save. You’re almost certainly over 190 characters. Cut a decorative line first.

Symbols show as empty boxes. That device doesn’t have a font covering that character. Older Android phones and some Windows setups are the usual culprits. Swap the symbol for a more common one.

The layout looks broken on a phone. The profile card is narrower than the editor, so long lines wrap. Shorten the longest line rather than the whole bio.

Line breaks disappeared. Some copy paths flatten them. Copy again with the Copy button, and paste into the About Me box rather than a chat message first.

You want a different bio in one server. Per-server profiles let you set a separate About Me for a single community, which is a Nitro feature. Your main profile stays as it is.

Discord bio template FAQ

How many characters can a Discord bio have?

190, including spaces, line breaks, symbols and emoji. It’s the same for Nitro and non-Nitro accounts.

How do I copy and paste a Discord bio template?

Press Copy on any template here, then paste it into User Settings → Profiles → About Me. Nothing is installed and no sign-up is needed.

Where is the About Me section on mobile?

Tap your avatar, open your profile settings, and edit the About Me field. It’s the same 190-character box as on desktop.

Do these Discord templates work on server profiles too?

Yes. Anywhere Discord gives you an About Me field, the same text works.

Can I use bold or italic text in my bio?

Yes on current clients, using Discord markdown. The syntax characters count toward your limit, so preview it before you commit the space.

Why do the fancy letters work when Discord has no fonts?

They’re Unicode characters shaped like styled letters, so they paste as plain text anywhere.

Are these templates free?

All of them. Copy as many as you like, edit them, and reuse them.

Can I make my own layout here?

Yes. Start from an empty editor, or load any template and change everything in it. The preview shows your version on a profile card as you type.
